Getting started

osu! formats userpages, forum posts and beatmap descriptions with BBCode: plain text with tags in square brackets. A tag opens with [name] and closes with [/name], and whatever sits between them gets the effect.

Arguments

Some tags take a value after =. A color takes a hex code or a name, a size takes a percentage, a box takes its title:

Tags osu! doesn't know

osu! only reads its own tags, spelled its own way, in lowercase. Anything else stays on the page as plain text, brackets and all. [center] is the usual one: osu! spells it [centre]. The same goes for tags from other forums, like [font] or [table]. bb underlines these in the editor and, where the fix is obvious, offers it.

Using the editor

• Type in the left pane and the preview on the right follows. On a phone, switch between them with the tabs.
• Select some text and press a toolbar button to wrap it. Press the same button again to unwrap it. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U (Cmd on a Mac) do bold, italic and underline.
• Type [ to get a list of every tag. Pick one and bb writes the closing tag for you.
• Wavy underlines mark something osu! would show differently than you meant. Hover one to read why, and press Fix when there is one.
• Your drafts stay in this browser. Make as many as you like from the Draft menu, and name them so you can find them again. Nothing is sent anywhere.
• When you're done, press Copy BBCode and paste it into osu!.
